### Chapter 2: Chapter 2

A quiet yes was the response, and Lorelei opened her mum's bedroom door, smiling at her. Her mum sent her a small wave and watched as her daughter walked around to the side of the bed, carrying a tray of food.

"I spoke to the nurse, and she said that you need to try and eat more protein," She said. "I know you can't eat much, but scrambled eggs on toast should be ok on your stomach."

"Thank you," Her mum forced out.

"I have fresh water here, and your tablets are next to the plate. If you need any help, give me a call. I need to make a few calls and do some washing," Lorelei kissed her mum's forehead and filled the cup up. "I'll leave the door open."

Lorelei smiled as her mum started to eat slowly, and she backed out of the room in search of something to eat. There was leftover pizza, so she threw a slice in the microwave and made herself a coffee. She didn't know why she drank coffee because it was so bitter, and she added a lot of sugar and milk to it. But it kept her awake, and it helped her get through the day.

After she ate, she checked to see if her mum was okay and then carried on with her daily tasks. A few phone calls later, she was throwing clothes into the washing machine and cleaning around the house. The coffee had finally kicked in, and she decided it was about time she cleared her bedroom.

Lorelei and her mum lived in a ground-floor flat that was adapted for her mum's needs. It took a few years to convince their housing officer that her mum needed more space, but Lorelei was stubborn and didn't give up.

Lorelei left the pile of clothes in her room and poked her head into her mum's room. "Finished?"

"Good!" Lorelei smiled. "Wow. I must make some good scrambled eggs,"

"I enjoy your cooking," She said. "It's a shame that you have to do it."

"I'm your daughter. I'm supposed to help you," Lorelei said, moving the tray away. "What did you want to do today? I got the box sets you were after. You can either watch them, or we can finish watching-"

"You need a break," Her mum said, taking her hand. "You are working too hard."

"Darling, you are too young to be looking after me,"

Lorelei shrugged. "I don't mind. It's not like Ron is going to do it,"

"And he is still a waste of space," Lorelei said.

"Then what about you?" Lorelei asked. "I can't leave you behind."

Her mum sighed. "You need to take time off work. Your boss shouldn't keep putting you on night shifts. It isn't safe for a young lady."

Lorelei chuckled. "Mum. It's ok. I work in a supermarket. What's the worst that can happen? I drop the eggs?"

"Ok, ok," She said, "I'm sorry. Working nights is easier anyway. Fewer people, and I get to spend the day with you. What more can I want?"

"Gross," Lorelei shivered. "A boyfriend? Gross."

"Who is going to look after you when I am gone?"

Lorelei swallowed back tears, "You won't need to worry about that. I'm a big girl. I can take care of myself."

"I know, darling. I know," Her mum said. "Now, let's finish watching our film. I'll try to stay awake this time."

10 minutes into the film, Lorelei lifted the cover to keep her mum warm, and she turned the TV off, heading back to her room.

Her mum had gradually gotten worse and refused to go into hospice care. Her no-good dad walked out the moment he knew that she wasn't going to get better. Although Ron did nothing for the family apart from sitting on his fat ass all day drinking beer and gambling Lorelei's money.

Ron rarely got in contact with Lorelei unless he needed something, and he always walked away angry. She never gave him what he wanted and told him to leave before she called the cops on him. But he always came back thinking that she would change her mind.

Lorelei sighed and looked at the time. When her mum's nurses showed up, she told them what was needed and then started getting ready for work. It was the only time she could pamper herself and not feel guilty for leaving her mum alone.

By the time she had finished drying her hair, the nurses were making her mum dinner. Lorelei pinched some food before going to her mum.

"I'm off now," She said. "I've told your nurses to call me if anything happens. I'll be home right away."

Lorelei smiled. "They wouldn't fire me. I'm one of their best girls,"

"I do," Lorelei kissed her mum's head, "I'll be back later. Love you, Mum!"

"Let me see you in your uniform again."

Lorelei nodded and undid her hoodie so she could see the uniform. "It still sucks."

"But you look beautiful. I love you, Lori. Look after yourself."

Lorelei sent her another smile and waved bye to the nurses. She headed down the road and tried to ignore the guilt that was eating away inside her.

There was no chance she was going to tell her mum that she was fired from the supermarket and now worked as an exotic dancer. It would break her mum's heart.

With a sigh, she put her sunglasses on and began the walk to the club. It was the only time she could get fresh air, and she didn't care if it took almost an hour to walk there. The sun was still out, so she didn't need to worry about creeps hiding around every corner.

Kissed came into her sight, and she heard someone running up behind her.

"You sound like a herd of elephants,"

"You dumb bitch," Ada said, smacking her friend's ass, "I'm sorry that I wasn't gifted with the height and grace of a giraffe."

Lorelei grinned down at her friend. "Giraffes aren't graceful. You have seen them fight, right?"

"Shut up," Ada pouted, "You look like shit. Did you walk here again?"

"I like the walk. It helps clear my head."

Lorelei laughed. "You ask me this every time I see you. Mum still thinks I work at the supermarket. I don't have the heart to tell her where I actually work."

"Alicia wouldn't care," Ada said, as they crossed the road. "You are helping her. She just wants you to be happy."

"She would blame herself that I'm working as a stripper."

"Stripper, dancer, whatever you call it," Ada said. "You earn the big bucks here. Nothing wrong with getting your tits out for money."

"And you have plenty to go around," Lorelei winked at her friend, and the bouncer opened the doors for them. "Thank you,"

"Big crowd expected tonight," Bruce said. "More bouncers. Not sure what is going on. Be careful, ladies."

"I heard the big boss was coming in," Ada said, following her friend through the bar. A few girls were already on stage dancing on the pole, with a few businessmen scattered around. "The owner of this joint."

"I don't think I have ever met him," Lorelei said with a shrug. "I wasn't interviewed by him."

"No one was!" Ada said, "Apart from little Miss Perfect,"

"Everyone thinks she sucked his dick to get the job," Ada scoffed and rolled her eyes. "Not that it would be a surprise. She gets extra money from clients by giving a blowy."

The girls reached their changing area and sat down.

"I heard she let them come on her tits," Lorelei said. "Again, I wouldn't be surprised. Crystal is filth."

"Then you have no idea what went down last night," Another girl came up to them and shivered.

"Oh, do tell," Ada said. "You can't give us that and not tell us, Rach."

"Last night, I was taking a customer for a private dance," Rach said, lowering her voice. "My usual room was taken, so I opened the next door... and regretted it. God, I wish I could bleach my eyes,"

"Ok, sorry," Rach grimaced. "Her customer seemed to like being fucked hard...up his ass...with her fist"

"Fuck off!" The girls said loudly. "Are you serious?"

"My private dance apologised to me and ran. I missed out on a ton because of her!"

"How does she keep her job?" Ada asked.

Rach shrugged, "She and the owner go way back. Everyone knows she gave him a blowy for the job."

"I knew it!" Ada said loudly, "I fucking knew it!"
