Older woman, younger man: our age-gap romance collection
[Night novels · Collection intro] "Sniper Butterfly" has put "older woman, younger man" back at the top of romance searches, so we're opening a collection of original age-gap stories.
Why these stories work - Role reversal. The older woman is usually the more settled one, the one in control, and the younger man's directness and warmth wear her defenses down. - Inner tension. She keeps asking herself "is this okay?" He keeps proving he means it. The hesitation and the reassurance are the whole appeal. - Growing together. The best of these stories aren't about one person looking after the other. They're about two adults both growing in the relationship.
Our rules - Every character is an adult, with their age stated in the story. We never write a "backstory" from when either was underage. - We don't write relationships with built-in power gaps, such as teacher and student or boss and employee. We also don't write setups where someone pays for or "repays" love. - All intimacy is clearly consensual, and either person can stop at any time. - We don't rewrite any novel or show, and we don't write about real people.
Start here The first original is "Seven Years Older": a photographer, 35, and a sound engineer, 28, meet again backstage after a concert loses power. More stories are coming, including workplace near-misses, chance meetings on the road and second starts after divorce.
One last thing An age gap isn't romantic or a problem in itself. What matters is whether two people chose each other as equals.
